“‘Jimmy sent me this picture.’ He took out his wallet with trembling fingers. ‘Look there.’ It was a photograph of the house, cracked in the corners and dirty it’s many hands. He pointed out every detail to me eagerly. He had shown it so often that I think it was more real to him now than the house itself” (Fitzgerald 172). I chose this quote because it shows how proud Gatsby’s father was of him even after his death.

This chapter talked a lot about the aftermath of Gatsby’s death. Not a lot of people wanted to get involved with going to his funeral which I thought was a little unfortunate. I feel like Gatsby deserved better and the ending of this book was very saddening.

Chapter 8

“Standing behind him, Michealis saw with a shock that he was looking at the eyes of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg, which had just emerged, pale and enormous, from the dissolving night. ‘God sees everything ,’ repeated Wilson’” (Fitzgerald 159-160). I chose this specific quote because it shows how Wilson suddenly changed his attitude after the death of his wife and how he knew what she was doing and what she was hiding from him.

This chapter was very shocking and heartbreaking. I was very mad when I read that Gatsby was killed. I liked this book at first, but now I hate it. Gatsby’s death came as a huge shock and I was certainly not expecting it.

Chapter 7

“‘Your wife doesn’t love you,’ said Gatsby. ‘She’s never loved you. She loves me.’ ‘You must be crazy!’ exclaimed Tom automatically… ‘She never loved you, do you hear?’ he cried. ‘She only married you because I was poor and she was tired of waiting for me.’” (Fitzgerald 130). I chose this quote because this was when everything came undone and Gatsby and Daisy’s secret was out in the open.

I chose the image above because that looks like Gatsby’s car and that was the car that killed Myrtle Wilson. The importance behind this car was that Daisy was driving it and she was the one who killed Myrtle, but Gatsby was willing to take the blame because of how much he loved her.

“‘Can’t repeat the past?’ He cried incredulously. ‘Why of course you can!’. He looked around him wildly, as if the last were lurking here in the shadow of his house, just out of reach of his hand. ‘I’m going to fix everything just the way it was before,’ he said, nodding determinedly. ‘She’ll see’” (Fitzgerald 110). I chose this quote because it shows Gatsby’s determination to win Daisy back.

This chapter explained a few things about Gatsby, regarding why he doesn’t drink and how he acquired his wealth. In this chapter, Daisy and Tom finally go to one of Gatsby’s parties, but Daisy wasn’t very happy. It was kind of sad seeing how Gatsby was anticipating Daisy coming to one of his parties and her not having fun. It was very exciting reading how Gatsby finally decides to act upon wanting to get Daisy back.

Chapter 5

”After his embarrassment and his unreasoning joy he was consumed with wonder at her presence. He had been full of the idea so long, dreamed it right through to the end…now, in the reaction, he was running down like an overwound clock” (Fitzgerald 92). I chose this specific quote because it shows the emotions Gatsby had during the moment that he had been longing for for years.

I really liked this chapter because I felt like it was a moment everybody was waiting for. Gatsby and Daisy finally reunited after almost 5 years and it was nice seeing how it all happened regarding their hesitant and embarrassing actions and their emotions.

Chapter 4

“We passed a barrier of dark trees, and then the façade of Fifty-ninth Street, a block of delicate pale light, beamed down into the park…and so I drew up the girl beside me, tightening my arms” (Fitzgerald 80). I chose this quote because it shows how the relationship between Nick and Jordan evolves into something more than friendship which is serious considering the way that Nick was describing her.

The thing I liked the most about this chapter was how we got a glimpse into Nick and Jordan’s future romance, which I’m hoping will take some part in the story because I ship it. I also really like how the story is going along because we finally get to see the first interaction between Tom and Gatsby and I thought it was interesting how Tom had no idea who Gatsby was, but Gatsby knew who Tom was because he knew that he was married to Daisy.

“‘I thought you knew, old sport. I’m afraid I’m not a very good host.’ He smiled understandingly. It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life” (Fitzgerald 48). I chose this specific quote because it was the first introduction to Gatbsy and I felt like that was important.

I chose the image above as a representation of this chapter because this chapter was mostly about the party at Gatsby’s house. His parties are big, they last for hours and they always sound very fun.

Chapter 2

“‘I married him because I thought he was a gentleman’… ‘I thought he knew something about breeding, but he wasn’t fit to lick my show’” (Fitzgerald 34). I chose this quote because it shows how Myrtle Wilson feels about her marriage and why she’s having an affair with Tom Buchanan.

What I liked about this chapter was how it showed a little more detail about Tom Buchanan’s other life. This chapter explained who Myrtle Wilson was and why she was having an affair with Tom. Also, in this chapter Nick gets more of an inside scoop on the lives of the socialites of New York.

Chapter 1

“Two shining arrogant eyes had established dominance over his face and gave him the appearance of always leaning aggressively forward” (Fitzgerald 7). I chose this quote because I feel like it describes Tom Buchanan in a special way that explains certain aspects of his personality.

I liked this chapter because it was sort of a first look into the characters lives and who they were and it made me more a little bit more interested in knowing what was going to happen next. There were brief descriptions of the first few characters, but there was some mysteriousness about Gatsby that was intriguing.
